Re: Football Season 2011/12
The only reason Celtic and Rangers are not already in the Premiership is because of the question of how to do it. Otherwise it would have already been done.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
To add insult to injury, even Ireland have a team still in Europe. Shamrock Rovers have just beaten Partizan Belgrade, one of the biggest teams in the Europa League, 2-3 on aggregate, after extra time.
I guess Celtic fans can take tenuous, desperate heart in that at least.
They scored a great equalising goal too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOfNq6JY_BE

Shamrock Rovers are set to become the first Irish team to play a European match in December since Shelbourne in 1964. Heroic.

Here is a slightly flawed but nevertheless interesting article.
Arsenal & Blackpool were robbed

Actually, my wife and I were discussing that the other day and looked it up: Great Britain is the name under which the UK enters the Olympics. It's sort of an historical accident. Changing the name to UK now would mean that the UK couldn't claim the GB medals, even though it's always been the UK that competed in the Olympics. It's just called GB...
Wiki
Quote:
Great Britain is the name under which the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland competes at the Olympic Games.[1][2] Great Britain was one of 14 teams to compete in the first Games, the 1896 Summer Olympics, and has competed at every Games. Athletes representing Great Britain have won 715 medals at the Summer Olympic Games, and another 22 at the Winter Olympic Games. Great Britain is the only team to have won at least one gold medal at every Summer Games.
Great Britain was the name assigned to the United Kingdom team by the International Olympic Committee[citation needed] for the 1908 Summer Olympics along with the IOC country code GBR. The team is also referred to as Team GB.[2] Representatives of the devolved Northern Ireland government, however, have objected to the name, which they argue creates a perception that Northern Ireland is not part of the British Olympic team, and have called for the team to be renamed as Team UK.[3][4]
Under the terms of a long-standing settlement between the British Olympic Association and the Olympic Council of Ireland,[citation needed] athletes from Northern Ireland can elect to represent Ireland at the Olympics, as Northern Irish people are legally entitled to dual citizenship.[5]

Certainly flawed but I good illustration of the damage incorrect decisions can do and the myth, which never held any substance, and they balance each other out at the end of the season.

Yep, and if you went back over a century you'll probably find that it's happened to every team in the country

Re: Football Season 2011/12
The law of averages says that over time these decisions generally equal themselves out so basically we have to accept the bad decisions when we get them and the good decisions when we get them because if one thing is certain it is that referees always stand by their decisions whether they are good or bad.

Championship? Thats aiming a bit high, we'd end up relegated from it the way things are just now.

It's already in the gutter after the crap performances of most teams over the last few years. I believe next year the winner of the league gets automatic entry to the Champions League (to get a drubbing each game ) and after that it's right down at the bottom with 3 qualifying matches.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
Well it seems Asenal are trying to get players on the cheap as they have just made a bid for Gary Cahill of £6 million and it was rejected by Bolton.

That surprises me. Why would they get a automatic spot when their coefficient has been going down?
