Actually it would make more of a mockery of the charts than it is at the moment. They would have reached number one based on the marketing campaign surrounding them, not because of the music. There was a reason why it reached only number twenty-five in the charts in nineteen ninety-two; it was crap. Why is this more deserving than any other song?

I would rather have any other song reach the Christmas Number One than this total Christmas takeover that we have had to put up for the last few years because of this programme.
Before this crap format was envisaged singers and bands actually used to vie for the Christmas number one.
Now none of the big hitters bother because they do not want to face being pipped to the top slot by a marketing ploy.
Now because of this show everyone just assumes that the winner must get to be the Christmas Number One by default.
Anyone that wants to spend 65p trying to ensure that the X Factor song only gets to Number 2 please click HERE

And X-Factor has reached No 1 because of an overwhelming Juggernaut that is the 'marketing campaign' surrounding it. The idea that this campaign makes a mockery of the chart and is somehow unfair is nuts.
X-Factor has had 12 weeks of having the prime time slot every Saturday, and every Sunday, on ITV. All of it planned to end on the Sunday before the week of the Christmas no 1 and RATM are the ones benefiting from a marketing campaign?

Why? If the winner of the x-factor/pop idol/popstars (any year) gets to number one after all the exposure they get (be it on TV, Radio or the press), is it because they are genuinely talented, or because they have been massively hyped? I suppose one way to find out is to see how many of them have No. 1s a couple of months after the series finishes.
I think you'll find it a lot less than number of people who have won those shows..
