Re: Train Spotters Corner
Train spotting has never been something I have thought of doing, however I am within short walking distance of a station that regularly hosts steam engines. At weekends I can hear the whistles & shunting as they leave.
One day I'll take a closer look

Re: Train Spotters Corner
I saw a steam train for the ELR in the station t'other day.
The condition of the roof on the carriages was a joke - it looked like an old felt roofed shed that was in bad need of refelting.
Shame.
(prob a cost vs funds thing for the volunteers).

Without volunteers the Steam preservation movement would be dead and buried zoombini.

Re: Train Spotters Corner
Did not George Osborne stand up in parliament and promised 'new and modern' trains to replace the Pacers?.

Ah the definitions of words:
New - As in new to where they're being deployed. Well anything's newer than a Pacer.
Modern - As in refurbished to look nice but be the same old crummy stuff underneath, see Pacer.
One has to analyse politician-speak very carefully.
