Re: Virgin TV (2024)
Hi
With Sky Forum web site today revealing that Sky are set to close Sky Sports SD Channels and MUTV SD Channel on Wednesday on Sky.
Can anyone who works for Virgin Media who see this post reveal if they will also close on Virgin from Wednesday?
Thanks for any info.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
How would they carry on with Sky Sports SD if Sky themselves close it down ?

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
I guess in theory they could downscale it themselves but would Sky allow this?

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
Sky are not closing them down. They are closing the old SD feeds and they will be replaced by DVB-S2 versions which will be SD but incomptable with the older Sky SD boxes.
So Sky viewers will need an HD box to keep SD versions.

I can't see that happening, it would affect a lot of on-going contracts. As customers don't seem to be complaining about changes being forced on them, maybe it isn't happening on Virgin on Wednesday. That's not to say it won't happen eventually. Sky Sports SD isn't available on Stream but, then again, neither is MUTV, if you want to take that as an indication of where things are going. SD versions will still be available on Sky for viewers in the ROI where the SD version of Sky Sports is still sold as an option (as it is on Virgin).

SD versions aren't actually being removed. They will no longer be available to Sky customers in the UK but will be available to customers in Ireland.

@epsilon I think if Sky do close Sky Sports SD Channels from Wednesday (OzSat says otherwise)
Virgin may just start to broadcast downgrade of Sky Sports HD Channels so you won't see Euro's sign when you see ads for KFC.

I would agree with what ozsat says about DVB-S2 but didn't mention that as it is beyond the scope of this thread. As for euro signs on KFC ads, well, Sky's playout arrangements are also way beyond the scope of this thread.
As Sky Sports SD and MUTV packages are still being sold by Virgin, as you have indicated on your X feed, it doesn't look as if they are planning for an imminent change.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)
It was another Sky announcement that causes the confusion.

Ditto for other Sky Sports channels. Self-contradictory, so no clarity at all.
Hmm! you could have just confirmed what will be happening on Virgin.
