Re: England women win Euro 2022
Good point. I’m not sure I think that would change if the stakes were higher….in the best possible way I’d love to find out.

There’s some debate about how the women’s game is different to the men’s but one to ing is certain, I saw a lot less diving, theatrical rolling around on the pitch and they seemed far more able than the men to stay on their feet during a tackle

The thing noticed was that there tended to be a lot less oomph in all of their movements. As if it was an under-12 boys team. The lack of physicality would explain all that.

Having watched the highlights, it seems taking your shirt off and running around to celebrate a goal is still a thing. I wonder if she got booked for it.

Yeah she got booked, same rules as the men's game.

Women's football is slower-paced. Not as fast and players aren't closed down as fast. You'll also notice that small mistakes aren't as quickly punished as they are in the men's game as a result.

If there was an advantage to playing that way, men would've been doing that all along instead. If they could play like the men and it was an advantage over the other women's team, they would do so. Therefore women are unable to play at the same level as the men, just as an under-12s boys team would struggle against the men's team.

No one said they can play at the same level as the men. I didn't say they were playing that way because it was an 'advantage', you seem to be trying to go out of your way to create a fight here.

No one? Really? They demand the same pay and the same attention etc. as Premiership teams and the men's national squad. Are those in the National League demanding the same pay as those in the Premiership?
Same with so many other sports. Women are demanding the same pay for doing less and to a lower standard. Equality?
Just look at all the fuss in the media. How many of the "fans" are actually interested in football, rather than just the hype over women playing it?

Re: England women win Euro 2022
Women's football is like women's tennis. There is a place for it but will never have the same command as the men's sport. I agree it's not for everyone but I don't think it's right to slate it or write it off. I thought their win was excellent and anything that inspires and create decent role models is a good thing.

Re: England women win Euro 2022
I went to the England NI match, and I had been to one of the world cup qualifiers a few years ago.
the atmosphere is brilliant, it's different to the men's, probably becuase it's more families, and couples, and not groups of men.
little things, like say a player has been good for 85 mins, and makes a mistake, you don't get ppl shouting they're a f-ing waste of space nd shouldn't be on the pitch
also, I remember being impressed by Millie Bright's crossing of the ball, and I wouldn't like to have been on the receiving end of some of her tackles, not dirty, but crunching

They are equally as good, if not better, than men at the verbals (but we knew that already ! )

Jill Scott has become an internet sensation after being caught swearing at a rival player during the women’s Euro 2022 final on Sunday night.
Before England’s Lionesses secured their historic 2-1 victory against Germany at Wembley Stadium, the 35-year-old mid-fielder was pulled down to the ground by opposition player Sydney Lohmann.
Clearly furious by the challenge, Jill was then seen shouting and telling Sydney to ‘f*ck off you f*cking pr*ck’ – and her rant didn’t go unnoticed

Re: England women win Euro 2022
The atmosphere will be different, because they are not really football fans. It could just as easily been synchronised knitting. No passion or fervour, other than women playing and they are playing for the "fans" country.
I wouldn't say I was especially a fan of football or any other sport, so I wouldn't all get worked up at a match. I might get worked up, if I thought an error had been made in a decision, but that's it.

Re: England women win Euro 2022
It is, I would guess, the only way the Euro Cup is coming to England anytime in the next few years, the mens team has looked terrible in the last few games.

Funny how the comparisons are only positive ones and we're told we can't compare the negative ones as they're different games, I used to enjoy womens football but I feel it's all a bit forced now, it didn't evolve as it should've and that will only continue since the premier league got involved, forced involvement to in some clubs cases to. In terms of quality I wouldn't want to say it's Sunday league but I doubt this team would survive at any level in the mens part time leagues, Birgit Prinz is still the only woman I've ever seen that could remotely cut it at some level in the football league.

The quality has got a lot better in the last few years as the game has become more professionalised. It's evolved much faster in the last 5 years than any other time I can remember. Even watching this vs the last international tournament you can see the goalkeeping - whilst still poor - has got much better. Remember it's been in the last 10 or so years that the top women in England could build a career out of this so only around now are we seeing the first generation of female players who came through academies with the prospect of this being a career rather than a hobby.
Crowds are going up. Exposure is going up. TV Viewing figures are going up. It's a growing sport. Arsenal have started having more games at the Emirates.
As the comparisons with the men's game, it is worse. I think the top WSL/National teams would be matched up against their equivalents in the men's youth teams as that's about the level the managers of these teams want to start training against. Arsenal women training against the U16 Arsenal men's team for example.

The goalkeeping has always been poor, England and Germany are the only countries who routinely produce decent goalkeepers, I think the goals are to big for them personally.
Training with is very different to playing against, you know the much vaunted USA womens team were losing so badly to Dallas U15's in 2015 the game was called off at halftime to save them from further embarrassment
