Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
Samsung Galaxy S21 costs over £1100, and that’s Android.
Motorola Razr £1,200
Sony Experia III £1,200
It’s not just Apple…

Yet there are £200 phones out there, that do most of the functions these thousand pound phones do. They might be slightly better but not 5 times better. It's branding, people are paying for. Their choice I guess.

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
As others have said - both have pros and cons and everyone’s experience will be different. Personally I liked Android but did get frustrated on a couple of devices with buggy apps draining the battery for example and didn’t handle low signal power well. Probably just bad luck (Sony Xperia Z5 and OnePlus 3)
Swapped to IOS (8 plus originally) and personally have loved it - just works. Was sad to lose some customisation and OS level access but got over it. My 11 pro max lasted all day (sometimes 2) with a great camera. Now got the 13 pro max - just look at the reviews - there is a lot that is good about it. Of course I’m sure there are Android phones which tick all the boxes too - there isn’t a right or wrong just personal choice

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
^^^
This
It’s up to the individual user/customer/person - I’ve had iPhones for work, was very happy with them, my personal phone was always Android for price/performance/functionality per £.
I understand why people prefer iPhones - for the non-techy, they "just work", whilst Android, especially in the early days, could be quite frustrating (I used to be in the Google Europe CIOs Group, and we were often given early models of Android tablets & phones, and compared to iOS, they weren’t very good).
My wife & kids (kids! - 34 & 30) prefer Apple tablets & phones, but they keep their phones for 3-4 years, and never buy the newest model - I have an Android phone and an Apple tablet.
As david says above, it’s personal choice.

But a good android can be got for a lot less . What do new Apple phones start at . No really do not have a clue . Broke my heart paying £209 for a oppo a74 5g . But it more than meets my needs . Love the battery charges in just over an hour from flat And has 2 year warranty.

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
Daughter (21) won't have anything else, iPhone and 10" iPad.
She does seem to be always buying the charging cables though (is it lightening? ) and earphones. Recently she bought those apple wireless ear bud things, I hope they last for the amount they cost

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
Most of Apple accessories aren't what you call cheap. I paid £119 for the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation). And the Apple case with Magic Keyboard, just don't go there.

The EU are telling Apple they have to use USB C charging in future, like normal people, instead of their silly lightning charging things. Apple aren't happy, as it means they'll be like the hoi polloi. Does mean the charging cable land fill will be a bit less, well done the EU

They haven't really thought about all the lightning cables which will end up in landfill though, when people move to newer iphones and need new cables.
I happen to think the lightning is a better connector than usb-c, but what do I know?

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
All my family (except me) have apple (iPhones, iPad).
When they first got smart phones (iPhone 4), apple was by far the most well known and decent choice, its what they are used to, and have stuck with ever since.
I got an android tablet in 2013, and a number of android tv boxes over the years, its what Im used to, so I have stuck with it.

Ah, the good old EU, still handing out its 'do as we tell you' directives.
I happen to think its dumb that apple dont use the usb standard, but I dont think its the EUs place to try and force them.
It wont save customers money at all, apple will obviously charge more for EU models as they have to add a usb port - far more than the cost of a lightning cable.

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
Ive decided to go for the iPhone13 Pro....Now the decision....Stick with the colour graphite or go for Sierra blue?
Or does the blue look a little "girly"? I'm liking it but then not. Decisions decisions!

I also thought the Apple connector was better. Yes the contacts on the cable are exposed but there isn't a little plastic tab inside the device that could break off.
At least USB-C is, like Apple, reversible, you don't have to blearily peer at tiny connectors to get in the right way.

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
Funnily enough, Apple has a few models already with a USB-C connector (my iPad Pro does, so I only need one cable for it and my Android phone).
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guid...add3159/ipados
Quote:
Models with a USB-C connector
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd and 4th generation)
iPad Pro 11-inch (1st and 2nd generation)
iPad Air (4th generation)
iPad mini (6th generation)
Note: You can also connect USB-C accessories to models with a Thunderbolt / USB 4 port.

Re: Anyone ordered the new iphone
There is a possibility they may remove the lightning port altogether and not replace it with USB-C. Then it would just use Wireless charging.

Yes, I have a wireless dock for my phone, unless I want to run it off mains for a quick charge during the day overnight it just gets charged wireless.
Syncing would be harder then, imazing is definitely more flaky on wireless sync than with a cable.

I understand Lightning is actually better performing than USB (or at least was before USB-C) which is why they didn't go for the mini USBs at the time so I don't see the sense in that decision, but there probably is one.
My macbook has 2 USB-C ports but I'd expect that of a computer not a mobile device where communication is much more likely to be both-way.
