You don't install it on the PC. Plug it in to the modem and PC by ethernet and then load up a browser at http:\\192.168.1.1

Default username = admin, password is blank. You can change it when you're in.

As nffc says, you don't need the software.
Just power everything off.
Connect it all together. Switch on modem, wait a minute, then switch on router, wait a minute, then switch on PC.
For the first time make sure you are linked by ethernet cable.
Point your browser to address posted above.
Username is normally admin and then no password or sometimes password is "password"

i ended up sending the linksys back and i got me a netgear instead

the range on it is superb
