Hope so that way I can drop my pay TV platform completely , view all my movies , HBO etc on an app via a cheap streaming unit , sadly can't see it happening anytime soon you only need to look at the American market for proof of that.

Yes, I'm looking forward to that day too. Can't come soon enough.
Leaving aside the cable Networks such as HBO, the US are reasonably well catered for in that respect. Netflix gives loads of older TV content (plus quite a bit of recent) and the free part of Hulu gives the past five current episodes from most of the Network TV stations; ABC, NBC etc. Hulu Plus gives full series episodes as well.

anyone seen this

More than a third of these revenues will come from Sky customers adding a BT subscription, the analysts added, while up to 31 per cent of turnover is expected to come from Virgin Media customers switching over.

31% of virgin TV customers is 1.17m. Source Oct 2012 VM TV base was 3.78 million

I think there maths is very wrong only 500,000 sub to sky sports why would 1.7m move to get BT Sport
If they meant 3.1% that's 117,000 still very high

I agree a capped VM 30mg connection will be faster than most SKY broadband connections, but it won't be faster than them all. At almost double the price of SKY's unlimited broadband, Virgins 30mb connection should be faster than every SKY broadband customers connection at all times.
Personally I'd rather pay £7.50 per month getting 15.5mb on an up to 18mb connection ahead of £14.50 per month for a 30mb connection and only getting 18mb once restrictions kick in.
The fact I'm getting my current broadband for just £3.75 with no limits, no shaping, no peer 2 peer speed reduction, no letters trying to tell me when to download, no need to install download monitoring software and no confusing usage policy appeals to me much more than a fluctuating connection costing me 4 times as much.
I do agree however that someone downloading for 24 hours on a Virgin 30mb connection will be able to download a fair bit more than I can over 24 hours on my 15.5mb connection.
Out of curiosty, by how much do Virgin throttle peer 2 peer and bit torrent? Is it 30% and it is only during peak times?

I don't understand your complaint, Arthur. They haven't done the deal yet, so there's nothing to tell.
The new service doesn't start until 1 August, so there's time a-plenty.

I don't see VM hiding the fact that that capping is part of the service and at a guess, I would say that the vast majority of users don't even encounter capping.
|
Exactly what I was thinking, passingbat! I re-read his post a few times because I thought I'd missed something!
Given that Chad has opted for slower than 30 mg, the 'cap', if it exists, couldn't have been a problem, could it?
Chad, please explain yourself!

Maybe why you are getting so hung up about VM's BB capping when it probably affects only a small proportion of users, doesn't stop you from downloading as much as you want, and is faster, even when capped, than most Sky BB connections?
Your apparent obsession with it confuses me. You chose Sky and are happy; others choose VM and are happy; what is the problem?

I'm simply explaining my views and opinions about SKY broadband, just like you are about Virgins 30mb connection. I'd say we were having a healthy informed discussion, which I was enjoying, until you started to accuse me of being hung up, obsessed and having a problem.
Whilst I might not agree with your point of view, I do respect your thoughts on the subject. Sadly I'm not feeling that respect in return.
Out of curiosity, do you work for Virgin?
