Boris Johnson joined Downing Street officials for a party at No 10 during the first Covid-19 lockdown – with the prime minister telling one attendee they deserved a drink for “beating back” the virus, The Independent has been told.
It is understood that about 20 civil servants and advisers gathered on 15 May last year for celebratory drinks inside Number 10 and its garden. At the time, people from different households were restricted to one-on-one meetings outdoors, with gatherings indoors strictly forbidden.

Britain’s top civil servant – who is investigating claims parties were held at Downing Street – has been accused of attending an impromptu Christmas drinks himself last year in breach of Covid rules, The Independent has learnt.
Simon Case, who was asked by Boris Johnson to look into potential government gatherings at the end of 2020 , is alleged to have shared drinks with 15 to 20 staff in mid-December 2020, according to two Whitehall officials who attended the event.

It's sad.
Now that Trump's gone, we've taken over as the laughing stock of the world.
Johnson needs to get a grip before Starmer does.

Sure we're the laughing stock and have been throughout the Brexit debacle during May's time.
Doesn't make it "sad" though. It'll right itself - the ship of state and all that, and in the meantime the UK ploughs on irrespective of Boris and some of his cohort.

Starmer is good at sitting on the front bench and looking out of his depth.

I’m minded to agree, not sure now is the best time however.
