Because he can't play the ball - he's got to get his foot in a position to play the ball. It wasn't a tackle - just scrabbling for the ball.

he goes to play the ball but instead changes his mind and decides to swing his foot as far away from one ball ![Smilie](images/smilies/smile.gif) as possible
a good sign as to how deliberate it was is his lack of an argument. if anything, he just goes to ask the ref what he got sent off for and accepted it

I would much rather that all players of any team/country would choose not to try and rely on theatrics.
If I see any player dive I get annoyed and frustrated - it make a joke of football. How can you take a sport serious where someone's ability to fake an elbow to the face is rated equally to their ability to score a goal?

Re: Ronaldo
the problem with diving is how inconsistent the refs are with it.
adraino got booked for a blatant dive, as did that ghana player, yet cristiano ronaldo dives blatantly twice and didn't even get warned for it

Re: Ronaldo
lol I too will be glad to see back of Shearer and Wright they make me sick only turn up to pundit England games and don't bother to try and talk sense about other nations.
Remember Wright when Mighty N.Ireland went 1-0 at Windsor? i wish i could have got that moment framed.
As for attacking someones spelling, if i may twist the words of Alan Shearer maybe its just N.Ireland we are too honest here but we wouldn't attack someone over spelling over here it just does'nt happen here! LOL

Unfortunately, Ronaldo also lack the maturity, like his fanbase.
And NI is so brilliant? At what?
Anyway, aren't you supposed to be in school? I didn't think the summer holidays started for another week or so.

Firstly we produced the best footballer that britian has ever had and indeed we are the smallest team to reach the 1/4 finals. The difference is we know are limits and don't cry when they aren't reached! we are ranked just inside the top 100 and therefore shouldn't qualify for the wc or beat teams like england...thats right we did!
By the way im 22 and go to uni!

Cricket - Have to admit im not really a cricket fan but have been poor since the ashes, The world cup will be the true test cause it won't be againist one team on home turf! - Ignoring the fact that that's the nature of test cricket, I wouldn't have said they were poor. They won their first test in India for God knows how many years, so that's surely an advance. As for the World Cup, we'll just have to wait and see

The worst dive of the tournament has got to be the other Ronaldo on Saturday night.
Retrospective punishments is the only way to sort it out. Have a team review each games and dish out bans and fines for diving and faking injury.

Re: Ronaldo
i've seen the Rooney clip time and again and i'm still not sure if it was on purpose or not.. sometimes i see it from one angle and it is and sometimes i see the other side and think he didn't do it on purpose
anyone seen anything official yet to say if Rooney was sent off for a push on Ronaldo or a foul on Carvalho ?
despite this the facts are - if Rooney wasn't playing as a lone striker.. something he can't do he wouldn't be so wound up
- we played rubbish in all 5 games.. consistent but still rubbish
- we still can't play for 90 mins let alone 120
- we didn't score against Portugal
- we didn't perform well enough to win the tournament
- Sven didn't have a clue what he was doing
- Jenas and Walcott had a free holiday

And your posts have showed maturity??? this is a forum for discussion not personal attacks. . . You have only posted around 60 odd times who you to judge if persons posts are ![Thumb Up](images/smilies/tup.gif) /
I don't think you will know full story about Ronaldo til Portugal win or get put out of WC.

Re: Ronaldo
the football in the tournament has been good, but it's a shame that diving is a valid talking point

i do agree that from the back it does look like an accident, but it's difficult to judge a backwards swing from behind
