im looking for a piece of software that can limit the supplied net connection based on the number of users connected - eg: 1 users connection has the whole pipe, 2 its 50/50 each, 3 everyone gets a 3rd etc etc Plus the usual limits based on time of day etc
Been looking for a few months and haven't really found anything, apart from hardware which isnt what im after really.
Seems to do what you want, but ive not read up on it. Will need to be diverted via a dedicated box i assume. (you can limit a user by % but not sure if its dynamic, reading on)
Is there a limit on what you want to spend? Cos most things appear to be expensive to do what you want. Home or business?
Never seen that, cheers! Cheap as possible i suppose as it is only for the home (students) as i have 5 connections or so. Saying that, the software you've listed seems to offer traffic shapping which could work along with port limiting - but i heard that certain torrent programs have encryption on packets which stop traffic shapping working?
ill try it out and see how i get on, but like you say most of the solutions that are out there are for businesses etc
