Re: Champions League Final 2006
Arsenel played appalingly badly last night - 80 minutes and NO attempts on goal?
I hope they get spanked in the final.

I hope Barca get to the final.
Then Henri won't mind losing to his new team mates

Seemed to me that Arsenal weren't really trying last night. They knew they needed a nil nil draw, and just worked toward that..
Made for a boring game though.

I won't be cheering Arsenal to win this time. I always support the UK team, but being a Spurs supporter if Arsenal do win the 4th position that spurs are in at the moment will be cancelled out by Arsenal. So come on the other Team.

Did you see the pitch invader with the Barca shirt that had Henry on the back.

Re: Champions League Final 2006
looks at how Arsenal have got there so far they haven't really played anyone
in the Group stages they beat Ajax 2-1 Away and then the rest of the teams don't count.. by the time they had to play Ajax at home they had already topped the group and that became an easy game
against the ageing stars of Real Madrid they only managed one goal and had very few chances.. considering most of the team is past their prime and they need zimmer frames to get round the pitch Real weren't much opposition
Juve despite being 10 points clear in Serie A never even turned up for either match
at home to VillarReal they played a team set out not to do anything and never attacked or used any skill and still only got one goal.. in lasts nights match they were rubbish for 90 mins and VillarReal were all over them and deserved to score although they couldn't put the ball in the net.. when the pen was taken, Lehman had already dived over to his left and still Riquelme kicked it straight at him.. hardly a great save when the ball is kicked at out
they get all the luck going and haven't been a great side but the results just keep falling their way

Yeah - you'd think Henri's agent would have picked a better moment to deliver the good news

"The championship is the only competition where the quality of the team is reflected after 38 games. The Champions League has now completely become a cup competition. Everybody can win it. Last year you had Porto and Monaco. Every year you will have two different teams in the final because it is so open. It's like last year, when Millwall were in the FA Cup final. Next year, you could have Coventry."
Arsene Wenger April 2005

But Wenger said: "Normally they should not have played in this cup.
"They are lucky to be in it because of the advantage this country has in having four qualifying places. Most countries have only three."
Wenger also backed the Football Association's decision to give the fourth Champions League place to the club finishing fourth in the Premiership.

Re: Champions League Final 2006
nice comments from Wnger but if he believes them the only way forward is to have it for just the champions and not have the positions going down to forth place in the league
the rules for the competition have changed and now the holders have to defend the trophy no matter where they finish in the league.. all teams entered the comp with this being the rules so is Arsenal finish 5th or lower and win it they will be in no matter what the FA say

Arsenal have not conceded in 10 games. They are in the final and real madrid and Juve are still good teams.
This is a achivement for Arsenal no matter how you try to spin it. They played bad yesterday but they managed to hold up.

Re: Champions League Final 2006
Even more surprising when you consider Arsenal's shocking away record.
Still, a win would see BBking returning to the football thread!

Re: Champions League Final 2006
The young team did do well this year in europe and hopefully this will transfer to the league next year. Regarding yesterday sometimes you need to be able to dig in and survive for 90 minutes when you seem to be playing really really REALLY bad.
