Sky and HBO renew Programming Deal for Sky Atlantic
Mods: Can you rename the thread "Sky and HBO renew Programming Deal for Sky Atlantic" or something similar, thanks.
HBO and Sky renew their programming deal, which means a HBO Max streaming service launch in UK and Ireland (and also Germany, Austria and Italy) is unlikely. The deal will include the Game of Thrones spin-offs. This isn't connected to the similar Sky/HBO co-productions deal made in 2017, but obviously will include the rights to air these shows on Sky Atlantic.
In my opinion, I think Sky Atlantic will remain to be exclusive to Sky, unless Sky is willing to offer the channel and whether Virgin, BT, etc. are willing to pay for it.

Re: Sky and HBO renew Programming Deal for HBO Max
l think you are spot on with your opinion that Sky Atlantic will remain exclusive to Sky for a good while yet despite the wildly exaggerated positivity from certain members.

EDIT: It's been officially agreed: https://www.digitaltveurope.com/2019...deal-with-hbo/

Re: Sky and HBO renew Programming Deal for HBO Max
If this is correct it could also be a good sign for Sky Cinema keeping the first run rights to Warner Bros movies.

It would be a big boost for Sky if they could, with the Peacock app coming to Sky Q next year it's a potentially exciting time in terms of content on offer via linear and on demand.
I just hope like Virgin they can add the Pluto TV App on there

Re: Sky and HBO renew Programming Deal for Sky Atlantic
Maybe my eyes glazed over, but I'm pretty sure the Sky-Warner press release doesn't mention how many years this is for. Last time, with the original deal, I think they did. This time it only says multi-year, rather than a specific number. This omission suggests to me this deal isn't anywhere near as long as last time.
