Hi - I've tried setting up a Netgear WAP (WG602) connected to the Virgin cable modem with no joy. Can anyone suggest how I need to configure the WAP to communicate with the modem.
Have you switched both the modem and the access point off, switched the modem back on, waited for the lights to settle and then switched the router on?
Thanks for the replies.
Zing - I thought I could connect the WAP to the modem with an ethernet cable and get wireless that way. I didn't think I'd need a router as well?
well TBH access points is something ive only used when part of an existing network. From what I can see you have to allocated a 192.168.*.* ip address to the access point meaning somewhere along the way you need a DHCP server.
I do not have experience but you may be able to set it to your external ip and perhaps gain web access with one machine but I do not know. I had a good look through the manual and set up of your AP and there is no way in there
