Router Problems

Ok I have a edimax BR6204WG 4 port router! which was and has been working fine for over a 1yr.. now last week the internet connection went down? Found out it was the cable splitter for the net and Tv replaced that! and since then I cannot connect to the internet via the router..the only way I can access is putting my ethernet cable, from my PC directly into my Motorola SB5100 Modem.. I can access the router via the usual 192.168.x.x all the settings are the same.. Im sure Im having problems with the DNS.. I have tried changing the DNS I even tried using a free DNS.. but still nothing is working.. so Im lost any help would be greatly appriciated! let me know if you need anything else towards sorting it out thanks...

Re: Router Problems

Which OS are you running on the PC?

When connected up via the router, open up a command prompt/terminal;
ping 209.85.171.100

ping 74.125.45.100

if you get valid replies, then you have Internet connectivity, in the same command prompt/terminal window, try;
ping google.com
if that DOESN'T give you a similar response then you possibly have a DNS issue. Change your PC's DNS settings to (OpenDNS - known to be working atm);
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Repeat above ping tests.
