It will help if you tell us which NETGEAR router it is (should be on a sticker on the bottom of the router) and also the model number of the Inventel adaptor and also important is which laptop and which Operating system it's running.

With the above info you;re likely to get a definite answer as to where to start

54 Mps wireless ADSL MODEM router DG834GSPv3
Laptop is a Toshiba EQUIUM A100-O1M Model PSAAGE-00300HAV and it has Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
