Well, if you take a look at Pluto TV, you will get the general idea. Whole channels devoted to cats, dogs, old films, etc. Some people like these shows, but if you are a seen this, done that sort of guy, there won’t be much on there for you. Infested with commercials, to boot.
I think these FAST channels are a novelty. Unless they improve the content, they won’t stand the test of time.

The profiles are very useful indeed, particularly for couples and families. It has the modern feel as well, which the TiVo software lacked.
I loved the TiVo when I first got it, and the V6 was an improvement. But looking at the software now, it just looks and feels so outdated. I don’t regret the change one bit, although I do recognise that early adopters were disappointed. Those disadvantages have been largely fixed now, although the ‘Wish list’ feature is not there (I think that is a TiVo copyright).

To be fair I find that Pluto TV is not too bad for adverts. The Mythbusters channel has one ad break during the show and one at the end, Married with Children channel has one ad break just before the end credits of the show then one after them.

Yes, it varies. But basically, I think it is dumbed down TV. If you want something to stimulate your mind, FAST channels are not the way to go.

That’s a real shame, OB. In 2019 these channels were cultivating an exciting new future.

I don't think Virgin needs to be worried at all, they just need to be ahead of the game for once, particularly given their enthusiasm for all things on demand.
In the future, I would like to see a basics bundle of streaming channels including the BBC i-Player, the full versions of ITV Hub, All4 and My5 without advertisements, UKTV Play, Hayu, Pluto, together with other free streaming services, and a mega-bundle containing the likes of Netflix, Prime, StarzPlay, YouTube Premium, Disney +, Facebook Watch and Sky Boxsets (and with whatever Sky platform transpires as the successor to Now TV once the linear channels are abandoned) with just the one subscription and with the ability to bookmark all this content in 'My Shows'. No doubt, BT will also have a streaming platform in place that we could tap into.
There will, of course, be an interim period when both existing TV channels and SVOD services co-exist, but that is how I see things panning out. Hopefully, we will get a huge selection of streaming services - the best of the Roku channels!

I have no problem with FAST channels being available - I just wouldn’t want to watch them myself. It’s just even more dumbed down TV.
Virgin needs to give people the choice. I don’t have an issue with that.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)
From the Wrap:
Re: The TCM closure.
Quote:
"TCM Movies UK will cease to exist on July 6, 2023 TheWrap has confirmed. An individual with knowledge of the matter told TheWrap the closure is unrelated to the events concerning the U.S. version of TCM, and stems instead from a review of UK market-related linear strategy initiated after the merger that created Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022.'
From cordcutters
"It seems that Warner Bros. Discovery is joining a growing number of companies cutting back on cable TV as it focuses more on streaming."
For the UK the merger made WBD look at staff costs, plus Satellite and cable channels and they decided TCM was to go
Until Max UK launches in 2025, other than a few films on Quest, most WBD films in UK will earn money on other companies streaming services. whilst WBD concentrate on TNT Sports, Eurosport and Discovery+.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)
Sky in New Zealand isn't Comcast owned though there is no connection to Sky in UK, Germany and Italy.
