It depends on whether it was deliberate, or just an instictive response.
Given how it was worded it, I'm inclined to think it was the former, which is poor form.

Calling someone an expletive is an instinctive reaction
, however using a racial slur is a conscious decision.
For example if a black person ‘mugged’ me I would probably respond with ‘you thieving c word’ that would be instinctive ‘you thieving black c word’ however is not
If a white person mugged me would I respond with ‘you thieving white c word’ ? No of course I wouldn’t
