Why would Sky have a free streaming service of content but have adverts on the linear channels AND charge subscribers for that content too?

What you might get is a Sky Mix catch-up service with older content on it to compete with the likes of Amazon's Freevee and UKTV. But not premium content like True Detective or Game of Thrones yet. That's reserved for subscribers.
