It's not really a new system at all.

It's just another re-implementation of existing systems we already have in WiFi and 3G/4G networks around the world, just they have some dream of implementing it in home devices whereas massive network companies already have trouble implementing it in licensed controlled networks where they run everything directly.

The main difficulty is that you'd need dedicated point-to-point fibre for every single access point (not just consumer FTTP but proper synchronous business fibre) plus every user would have to be running the same type of access point, and then you'd still have to replace the wireless cards in every laptop or phone you want to connect. It'll never happen in WiFi. Perhaps some utopian future replacement for WiFi many years from now...
