Sky Essentials is back with Sky Q for £25 a month.

Sky Essentials is back for new customers at £25 a month for 18 months.

You get:

- An owned satellite dish.

- The loan of a Sky Q box for the duration of the subscription.

- Free 24/7 calls of up to an hour to UK landlines and mobiles.

- Broadband with an average upload speed of 11 Mbps and an average download speed of 0.8 Mbps

Extra charges:

- Chargeable calls or calls lasting over an hour.

- £25 set-up fee.

- £15 if you require a weekend installation.

-£20 if there isn't an existing compatible line at the property.

- Extra charges may apply for non standard set-up.

Standard prices apply after 18 months (currently £57).

Interestingly, the Sky Q functionality/recording is now listed as £15 per month, I think it was £10 with the former Sky+ deal. I wonder if those not requiring phone and broadband can pay £15 to keep their box to record the free channels??

I think that this looks like a decent deal for the first 18 months, but is overpriced after this at £57 (£15 Sky Q functionality, £30 Sky Broadband Essential and £12 Talk Anytime). Of course, unlike the Sky+ deal, you don't get a free owned box. You'd be better off buying a Freesat box to record and looking around for a phone/BB supplier from Sky or elsewhere afterwards.

I assume that it is priced so high so as to make buying pay TV look like a better option.
