I've been in places like that. Even where we live now our weather can be different to surroundings in either direction - we have snow none around but usually it's other way around.
At university (Aberystwyth) one Feb we had some mile weather but cars were coming into town with a good layer of snow on roofs. (Naughty drivers not clearing it off.)
