They happen - we had a two month heatwave in 1976.

The opposite also happens - the UK had a "big Freeze" in 1963.
The early 1980's saw several cold winters, europe (and the UK) froze in 2010.

For that matter, May 2022 (ie this year) was the coldest May since 1997.
