You might cancel a programme if you wanted money to do something new/better. Look at the absurd number of series US TV shows do. So far in the UK we tended to quality over quantity e.g. Fawlty Towers just 12 episodes of perfection. In the US they'd still be running it and it would be in its 82nd series, with its 27th hotel owner.
Faulty Towers ended because the writers and main stars decided not to do anymore,not because the BBC didn't want to do anymore.
I don't believe a program is racist simply because they don't have many black people in it. If that were the case then you could say that about just about every program pre 1980's!
