Virgin Media didn't have to do that for downstream, so I wasn't aware it would be needed for upstream.

Anyone with a SH2ac will have a service that doesn't need a Hub 3 or Hub 4, so they'd only be moved over as part of an upgrade or as part of the move of the home phone over the the Hub based service. The network management offer of a Hub 4 isn't forced.

That would apply for the Hub 5 too.
