Mixing Network cables
Does it matter if a mix of Cat 7 and Cat 8 network cables are used in a setup.
Currently the majority of my network cables are cat 7 but i wish to move my router further away from my modem and the only longer cable i have us Cat 8, I'm just wondering if it will cause any speed issues on my internet? Thanks. |

Re: Mixing Network cables
Is your Network really 10G ?
Cat 7 is for 10Gbps, Cat 8 is for 25Gbps(+). 99% of home networks don't need either, as Cat 6a will do (it also handles 10G). |
Re: Mixing Network cables
My network will be upgraded to 10G next year.
The Cat 8 cable was just a cable i had hanging around, I didn't buy it especially. |

What will need such bandwidth? |
Re: Mixing Network cables
We want to be able to transfer large files over the network quicker than We currently can.

From what to what ?
(and still why, you need to be moving 100's GB for it really to matter) Also, a faster network wont make your actual storage devices any faster. |

Unless you have some SSDs in RAID, you won't see the full potential of a 10Gb network, though it will give you lots of wiggle-room for multiple transfers / 'future proofing' (though I hate that phrase). |
