How do I cancel my TV & Telephone, but keep my internet?

Hi, sorry if posted in the wrong area.

I want to cancel my TV & Telephone, but keep the internet.

We have been 4-5 months without a landline as I drilled the cable by mistake and just not fixed it. We never used it anyway to be honest. We would just get dodgy calls.

We also never watch tv. We’ll BBC, ITV etc as we just watch Netflix etc. when we have the time. However, we do need to keep the internet.

Is this easy to do? Has anyone done this with success or is it just a nightmare?

Really don’t want to keep paying for a service we don’t use.

Cheers all.

If you're out of contract it shouldn't be too difficult, although you may well end up paying a similar amount as VM like to sell bundles. Just ring customer services and go for the "thinking of leaving" option.

I will do, just want to check if anyone had experience of doing this. Also, what department should I pick/ask for? Cancellations, general account question?

Yes, thats why I posted it, I got rid of TV.
I think I used cancellations, but its a few months ago now.
You will likely end up on a new contract, just be aware of that.

How long have you been with VM? What I would do if out of contract is call put 30 days notice ot leave and then give them a well to call you back. Then explain you need to save money and no longer want the TV and Phoneline. They should offer you a deal. My latest offer was 100 meg for £22 or 200 meg for £28 with no TV or phone. Whatever happens it will mean a new contract

If you sign in to your VM account you should find the details of your current package listed there and the contract itself is in your Bills section.

You could try this link which works for me. ...

I cancelled my (100Mb) broadband. Got a call next day and offered 200 Mb for £20.

If you are out of contract and go onto broadband only, you can pay a one off fee of £35 (but I believe that there's an offer on for £15 and a report that one person got it for free) for a box that gives you free TV channels over the internet.

You can subscribe to pay/premium channels and apps on top if you wish.

Interestingly, ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD & ITV4 HD as well as the Channel 4 HD channels eg More 4 HD, E4 HD, Film 4 HD, which are pay channels are included. There has also been an unverified report that BT Sport is also available on this platform at no cost. If this is correct, I suspect it's an error and it will eventually stop.

People have posted here:

https://forums.digitalspy.com/discus...edia-stream/p1

that they weren't new customers and have been able to get it after downgrading to broadband only.

However, you're right to wonder if there is a catch and there is. It looks like it enters you into a new 18 month broadband contract.

However, if Bristolboy22 downgrades, I believe that they will put him into a new contract anyway.

There have also been reports of Virgin messing up people's bills after doing this, nothing new there, but they will need keeping an eye on.

What's in it for Virgin? They get a guaranteed customer for 18 months and, knowing that you now get your TV through their broadband, may be less accommodating when the contract ends and you try to negotiate a fair price.

There are pros and cons to it and it will suit some but not others.

Don't you move between Sky & Virgin for TV, but always use Virgin for your broadband? If I've got that right, it might be worth your while looking into this. You won't want to lose Sky Sports (it's expensive via stream), but it might do for the bedroom or kitchen.

Actually, even though Sky Sports is expensive on here, it might still work out cheaper overall, especially if you use any streaming services because you get 10% off some of them and all services are only on a 30 day rolling contract, meaning that you could cancel it when the football isn't on. You can pause live TV, but cannot record. More info here:

Not quite.
I use Sky for TV, and [currently] VM for broadband.
I have a back up internet connection from Talk Talk, which I upgraded to FTTP last month.
When my VM contract expires next year I plan to ditch it and upgrade my TT to either 500/70 or 900/110, and use a 4G router as my backup.
At that point, I will have no VM for the first time in 24 years (since the days of my connection being Diamond Cable).
