Terrible toss decision, terrible team selection. Didn't see Leach spin one ball where as Lyon turned it square.

It's a going be a long month, Root - good batsman, awful captain.

The Ashes are as good as gone. Not that we had them anyway. Why aren't we playing our fastest bowler? Just a load of medium pacers plus Root. The Aussies are terrified (not).

The problem is Australia have a better cricket team.

Typically unsporting them - for hitting poor Little Joe in the spondoolies, which crippled him, and then getting him out.... He was in tears when he left the pitch, not sure of the reason though ;)
They're absolute cads and rotters. I hope Joe's Mum gives them hell.

Did England actually play cricket?

Interesting comment that issue is that we've squeezed the county matches to the start and end of season. We need to mix up the whole and multiday matches with the shorter format through the whole season. Then (for home tests) we can drop players to county if need a bit more practice and bring up others as needed and they already have some practice in longer formats.

Who is going to pay? No one wants to watch 4 day county cricket, and the ECB/County chairmen are only interested in money and 'marketing' the 100 and 20/20's. They get no money for winning the Ashes.
Nationalising cricket is the way go :)

Root should have stepped down from the captaincy a long time ago as its been very clear for a long time that he does not possess the skillset to be a good captain.

As for England's batting its been a shambles generally for several years now.

He's not captain material, but we're kidding ourselves if sacking him will solve England's problems. Too much white ball, money chasing, "100'/20/20 crap. We've forgotten how to play proper cricket.
Not the players fault it's those that run the game in this country. They are only interested in money/tv contracts.
