BBC article on Gamecube

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3397649.stm

Favourite quote is:

"It is very dangerous to understand Nintendo" :D

I assume it was meant to say 'underestimate', but the article is the usual BBC filler analysis of the game's industry.

I also like the way that it appears to assume the UK market keep Nintendo afloat... I mean, wtf? This is also a fave...

Quote:

"I don't believe Nintendo is going to survive unless they have five or six exclusive titles."
...like they don't have that now? The moral of the story? DFC Intelligence don't know as much as they think they do, certainly not in a world wide market sense. Just check their other articles here.

It's just cool to diss the N, 'cos everybody does it. And they've been doing it since the days of the N64. Granted, only one truck load of money stops at Nintendo these days, instead of three but it certainly isn't like Nintendo are doing anything wrong; it's just the gaming market has moved on since and the general, mainstream gamer doesn't buy into the "other" systems like a certain, major household brand. Nintendo are still seen as one of the old guard, likely to disappear from the home hardware market like Sega did before them. Not sure why mind, but it doesn't stop articles like this from appearing ;)

Interesting article from thegameswire.com.

It seeams that although the Gamecube had it's best Xmas, it is still way behind the Xbox and PS2 in sales.

The Nintendo GameCube has had its most successful Christmas to date, with sales having increased 88% when compared to the same period of the previous year. Donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t get too excited now, Nintendo have covered up failure with success. The GameCube came third this Christmas in Europe, way behind the PS2 and XBOX,
Bold shows my emphasis.

Still had the most enjoyable games to play this Christmas I reckon :) Nothing beats multi player Mario Kart.

Mario Kart 64 beats it hands down. I can`t begin to count the number of hours I've put into Mario Kart 64, I can probably count the minutes I've put into Mario Kart:DD. Nintendo seriously dropped the ball with this iteration of the franchise by dumbing down the game mechanics too much.
