Films to see in 2020 / 2021

Due to coronavirus many of this year's films have been delayed and put back multiple times and as such the list features many films with a 2021 release date. This is by no means a comprehensive list of next year's releases and only features films which should have been released this year and have been put back to next year or beyond due to coronavirus.

This list is a collaborative effort so if you think I have missed something or there is a film you think may be of interest to the wider community mention it below and I will add it to the list.

Dates are subject to change and I will do my best to update them as I notice them. There was one film this year that was brought forward three months and at least three that were originally planned for this year and have been bumped to next year. I had Indiana Jones 5 on my list for next year and it has already been pushed back to 2021.

Once we get into the new year I'll unstick the current 2019 thread and make this sticky so it is more accessible. New trailers will be added every week as they are released so keep coming back and checking for updates :)

me too, horrors don't appeal to me at all, they are all about less story and more thrill. The only ones I have watched and enjoyed are the Scream films and I Know What You Did Last Summer. I gave Bright Burn the benefit of doubt last year and it was just your typical horror movie dressed up as scifi/superman. I won't be making the same mistake again.

yup, and tbh I don't mind at all. The films aren't mind blowing in terms of the story but they are just excellent popcorn movies, great to watch at the cinema and the more recent ones are developing the characters more and becoming more than just action flicks. I really enjoy them.

I am trying not to think about Black Widow too much because I want to be blown away. The one I am looking forward to the most in the short term is Mulan. I think it is easily going to gross over $1bn. Not only is it going to do ell generally because it is Disney, but it is going to pull in the Chinese market as well because of the story.
These are the films in rough order which I am most looking forward to this year:

Black Widow
Eternals
Wonder Woman
Mulan
Ghostbusters
Fast 9
The King's Man
Tenet
Dune
Bill & Ted
The Invisible Man

Me too, I feel like I have been throwing money down the drain this year because I am paying for my limitless subscription and I haven't been to the cinema yet. There literally isn't anything on I want to watch. Two films which should have been out this month and in March have been put back till the end of the year so the first proper film I want to watch at the cinema is Mulan at the end of March. Call of the Wild is out now but I would be going to see it for the sake of it, it isn't something which I think you would benefit from seeing at the cinema.

Yes but there is a hidden "bonus". Some series which may have been cancelled may get a continustion purely because the pilots for new ones will not have been produced and seen at the upfronts though those available may be online events.

Quote:

NBCUniversal, CBS and WarnerMedia have all canceled their May events and instead will present some sort of digital versions of their pitches to the ad community. In an unprecedented move, NBCU will also televise their event.

AMC Networks and Fox News have outwardly canceled their presentations, while Comcast’s FreeWheel postponed its event.

And the IAB is recommending all NewFront presenters scrap in-person events for streaming-only presentations. YouTube, Twitter and Roku, among others, are heeding this advice with plans to stream their events.

I was sorta hoping, although not really expecting, that Disney would go full out to promote Disney+ by putting it on there for anyone who commits to a year.

Re: Films to see in 2020

I am going to keep the thread open so people can discuss this year's movies and post new information as and when it becomes available but there aren't going to be any major updates or (probably) new trailers for the next few months. Release dates are constantly being pushed and there are many films which have been pushed twice already, firstly to the end of this year and now into the beginning of next year. As things get back to normal and dates look more concrete I'll update the list and probably doing a list rolling into next year so everyone can see where this year's expected releases have landed and know when to expect them.

This will put a smile on your face. You keep up with the HISHEs you'll love this; they have still managed to come up with something very clever and humourous even though all the movie releases have been put on hold.

Just for reference for anyone who is getting overly excited about getting back to the cinema. Sky have put a list together of this year's key release and the revised dates (which may still yet change!)

I have started updating the list and I'll finish it off tomorrow but here is a little something to get those juices flowing again

I have updated the list with the currently revised dates, it wasn't as painful as I thought I was going to be.

Coronavirus is having a long term impact on movie production, even the releases schedules for 2021 and 2022 are being impacted and films pushed back.

Hardly suprising.

If 2020 stuff is pushed back to 2021, then stuff due in 2021 is going to get pushed back, and so on ...

Yes, it's so worrying. I'm really looking forward to seeing the new James Bond movie but I wonder if that will even come out this year. It has been postponed from April to November 2020 but if we get hit by another wave of this thing, then I can see them moving that date again. Sad times for movie lovers.

That was one of the first films to be delayed back in February I think. Have a look at the first post in this thread, it has got the most up to date release dates so far as we know.

Thanks Maximus. I think that the return of the big box office blockbusters will give us something nice to look forward to when covid 19 is under control. however, it will be interesting to see whether movie studios choose to release their films straight to on demand services as Universal have been doing lately

Black Widow set to reach UK cinemas a week earlier than in the US

Quote:

The first instalment in Marvel Phase 4 will now reach cinemas on October 28 – should cinemas be open by then. Over in the United States, Black Widow remains set for release on November 6, having originally been due in cinemas in early May.

Re: Films to see in 2020

Early release aside, I think Black Widow in general is going to benefit from the lockdown massively. It was going to be popular anyway but perhaps not as much as some of the other MCU films but I think it is going to get a bit of a bump from the lockdown. As the cinemas have been closed for so long I think people are going to be gagging to go to the cinema so much that a) people who wouldn't normally go to the cinema will go just for something different to do and get them out of the house b) people who do go to the cinema who weren't too bothered about this (as some forum users have said themselves) will go and see it and c) people who were going to see it anyway will go and see it more than once.

Long story short I think it is going to beat projections by 10%-15% and I am going to play little game and predict a $1.5bn boxoffice revenue.

Just been down the list and checked everything. No surprise that things have changed again. All dates are now accurate afaik.
