SNP asks police to investigate cash for honours allegations

Quote:

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed it has received a letter from the SNP asking it to investigate cash for honours allegations against the Conservatives.

A spokesman for the force said it is currently "considering the contents of the correspondence" but an investigation or formal assessment into the allegations has not started.

SNP MP Pete Wishart revealed on Monday he had written to the Met after a report in The Times said 15 of the last 16 Conservative Party treasurers have been offered a seat in the House of Lords after donating more than £3m to the party.

An ex-party chairman was quoted by the newspaper as saying: "The truth is the entire political establishment knows this happens and they do nothing about it… the most telling line is, once you pay your £3m, you get your peerage."

The Conservatives have denied there is any link between the donations and nominations to sit in the upper chamber.

People who are successful are ones that are given peerages. At the same time they also can give donations to political parties.

Excellent. Perhaps while they’re at it they could ask the SNP what happened to the missing £600k donated to it specifically for a referendum, but which mysteriously vanished from the party bank account around the same time as they were paying for the last Holyrood election campaign.

Seems to be a recurring theme.

The issue seems to be a correlation between donations and peerages. Goldsmith was rewarded for his failure to hold his seat with a peerage, not for his success ar retaining his seat.

I think if we applied the saying "let he who is without sin cast the first stone", then no government would ever be held to account. Fortunately we don't.

Banana republic is right, you know last year HMRC sold 600 buildings to an off shore company for 220 million, we now pay 400 million a year to rent some of them back for continued use, the ex head of hmrc in charge at the time is now head of deloitte off shore accounts, coincidence Mr Hartnett
