Till Death Us do Part

The racist Alf Garnett is getting a rare outing on 'That's TV' at 9pm this week. Brave of them to rescreen this....
(We are of course laughing at Alf not with him ! ;))

Unfortunately 'Thats TV' is not on VM, but is on Freeview/Sky.

Wonder if they're tempted by 'Love Thy Neighbour' ? ;)

You were always laughing at Eddie in LTN, and he usually came off worse as well.

You can see a lot of episodes on You Tube, and I think its on DVD as well.

Both Till Death and Love Thy both aimed the stick at the racist showing them up so to be honest was never really racist anyway

They were funny, something you rarely see in "comedy" shows now.

I think sitcoms are a thing of the past, and we'll never see the likes of Steptoe/Dad's Army again.

Unfortunately the public now want the schedule full of reality tv, and property programmes. Very cheap to make too.

It's why films like Blazing Saddles wouldn't get made today. It contains racism but uses humour to show how wrong/silly it is. You can only show racism in more serious context and the struggle against it. If humour is involved it tends to be more vicious and itself racist but since it targets majority/powerful groups it's a social comment.
