Annoying message on Facebook

1 Attachment(s)
As of today I have been plagued by a really annoying repetitive message on Facebook. I have tried logging off and on, and also trying to stop notifications but so far no joy, what am I doing wrong?

It's not you, it's the person who posted the link.

Re: Annoying message on Facebook

Happens a lot on community pages where people try to share stuff from their mates, but the original post wasn’t set for public viewing; or, where the original post was changed from public to private, or has been removed.

Same message showing whilst both my wife and I playing angry birds this morning!

Re: Annoying message on Facebook

Actually I got it a couple of times right after I posted here. Must have been a Facebook bug.

Re: Annoying message on Facebook

I can't get rid of it, I selected to play this as normal through Bookmarks, so don't have a clue whom posted original link. would it help to uninstall my Facebook account and start afresh, or can someone please suggest some other method to remove it? It's driving me nuts.

Do you usually access Facebook by a web browser? If so, clearing the browser cache and cookies might help.

Yes I do Chris, and clearing the browser cache seems to have solved the problem, many thanks for that. :):):):):):):):):)

On a PC you can use Face Book Purity to sort out FB.

Never heard of that before Taf, but thanks, I will bear that in mind should any further problems arise with Facebook. :)

Face Book Purity can strip all that you don't want or need from the screen.

Mine is minimalist to the extreme.....

Why wait for future problems? Why not just use it now?

Hi Tinky, my FB is not quite as minimalist as Taff's .... yet but I'm getting there. :)

I have been using Face Book Purity (FBP) for years, it provides a great way to cut out all the annoying bits and pieces that get in the way of just being able to see the posts of people you actually want to connect with and don't want to have to wade through lots of drivel about stuff that you aren't interested in.

If you do decide to try it I am sure one of us will be able to give you a hand if you need it. There is nothing you could do that can't be undone by just unticking a box. :)

I have already installed Facebook Purity, but I can't bear reading through reams and reams to find out what to do.:(

It was working perfectly this morning, I have cleared the cache BTW.

I can't think of anything on FB Purity that would stop you being able to complete stop you adding your DOB. Are you trying to join a FB group?

add--- I have just been on to gaming site and it seems that there are several people having problems, including a couple of people who are having the same problem trying to enter their date of birth.

:D I'd have given up by now. My 'go to' time filler is now Solitaire, can't be doing with all the stress of getting involved with Facebook games. :D

:D: I am still on Facebook. FB Purity cuts out all the crappy bits and I just choose the private groups where I am still a member very carefully.

Can't be doing with all the keyboard experts, so many sprang up spouting 'evidence' from public platforms and forums trying to prove their ridiculous beliefs around every subject that touched on Covid.

:sigh: My circle of virtual friends seems to have been culled drastically over the last 18 months.

Of course you still a friend sweetie :) seems ages since we first met here on CF xx

I have to admit some of the members have surprised me by their attitude and I have "'avoided'" :D reading their posts to keep my blood pressure from hitting the roof but in the main most CFers have avoided the extremes I have encountered at other places on the internet.

Most people can guess who that horrible person is you're referring too! :D

Unfortunately Jo some of who I call/called my favourite posters over the past 15 years on here, have either passed away or not longer participate on CF, I do miss them, not least for their wealth of knowledge in solving my seemingly endless concerns/problems. What would I do/have done without them? The reason I keep coming back is because I totally rely on their ceaseless willingness to reassure/ help without seeking praise/thanks, bless them, they know who they are.

Totally agree, though I have kept in touch with few who no longer visit CF. :)

Yes, I think everyone feels exactly the same on that matter.

Another vote here for FB Purity :tu:

Problem solved for anyone who is receiving the same message. Fill in a date of birth( must be older than 13) then highlight the day and press enter, the continue button then turns green, press that and you are in. :):):):):):):):)

Hi Tinky this is the current message we are being given on the FBP options page that you will be shown once you have managed to link FBP to FB.
Quote:

FBP Tip: Did you know Facebook are blocking people from sharing direct links to the FBPURITY.COM website, because they don't want anyone to know how good it is and they don't want Facebook users having control over what they see on their own computers. You can get around this by sharing links to the FBP fan page at http://facebook.com/fluffbustingpurity instead
If Tafs link doesn't work try the link in my link and see how you get on. Putting up decorations at the moment but I will keep checking up to see if it works. fingers crossed

if anyone experiencing a problem viewing their newsfeeds and groups, with them showing no posts, this is due to a clash between FBP and the Adblock Plus extension, if you disable Adblock Plus for the Facebook website, things should go back to normal. FBP Blocks most ads on Facebook anyway, so you shouldnt notice much of a difference. Alternative options are to install "UBlock Origin" instead of Adblock Plus, as that is a higher rated and better extension, and does not cause a clash with F.B. Purity.
I had to swap and I can't fault Ublock it has even stopped some problems I was have on other sites

It is useful to backup the original settings for FBP, them make new backups as you do your tweaking.

Re: Annoying message on Facebook

This may not be related to FBP. I have hadit happen my Chromebook when I just stay on a site without any interaction and Facebook was one of those sites. In my case it was a setting that put my chromebook to sleep when it regarded that it was idle for more than 10 minutes. Maybe you have a similar setting in Windows ?

Probably I'm wrong and just scrolling for ages would still keep your laptop awake, it maybe just mine being a tad empathic as face book can sometimes put me to sleep as well. :D

Thanks for that Jo. It appears when I first log on to Pet rescue or Candy Crush. Looks like I am just going to have to put up with it.

Thats not a facebook message as such, it looks like your wireless telling you its offline (or thinks it is) for some reason.

The symbol is for a wifi connection, so maybe that is the problem?

It seems to be Facebook as it happens on my android phone too. It's the only thing it does it on.
