Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Here's a moan I've been wanting to get off my chest for a while: People who want me to fix their computers
Now, I live in a small North Wales village, the kind of place that everyone knows everyone, so everyone knows my day-to-day work is IT. The nearest IT shop/branch of PC world is a good 45 mins away by car. This means I get a fair few people asking me to fix their PCs, Laptops, tablets and the odd broadband connection For the most part, those asking are courteous and willing to pay, and are happy for me to take my time and sort out their issue. The ones I'm loosing patience with are... The door knockers: These are people who expect me to drop everything and go and fix their machine right now. They usually call at dinner time (having spotted my car outside) and seem quite perturbed that a load of malware popups on their machine will have to play second fiddle to my dinner. "Have you switched it off and on again": So many people call me out to fix problems such as lack of internet that they could easily sort themselves with a quick power cycle. Battery powered idiots: These are the ones that bring me a laptop to repair, but neglect to bring the power cable for for it, expecting me to either fix it on the (ancient and overcharged) battery or that I must have the charger for every laptop ever made to hand immediately. Guess the password: Having dropped off their laptop (with the power cable!) the owner then launches off without giving me the password, or scrawling it so illegibly on a post-it note that it can't be read. I've given up trying to phone them and have simply resorted to resetting the password "Its a virus isn't it": It seems the cause of every technical problem from popups to a duff monitor (Seriously) is "a virus". Remind me to tell my car mechanic that the squeaking brake noise is down to the head gasket... Payment: Most people realise I'm giving up my free time to sort out their shizzle, and are happy to stump up payment (be it money, favours in return or similar). Others seem totally shocked at the idea... |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Picture the scene. It's a cold, grey morning in the Southside of Glasgow. One handsome, young chap is cycling along on his way to work. Unlike the Daily Mail stereotype of cyclists he is wearing multiple bits of Hi-Viz clothing, has a bike in full working order with lights etc all on and hasn't jumped every red light he has come to on his journey.
He is making his way through a roundabout thinking "excellent, almost there. What a lovely morning for a bike ride" when an Audi driver clearly decides to punish him for daring to be on the road without paying road tax by pulling out in front of him leaving him just enough time to think. "ooh bugger, this is going to hurt" Before being transported from a nice comfy saddle to the cold wet ground via the Audis bonnet and windscreen. End result was the hero of the story gets an ambulance, traffic chaos at rush hour, articles of clothing being cut off and all I got out of it was some entonox and morphine plus a spinal board and umpteen x rays and CT scans. |

As said by my new doctor on actually seeing how many pills / things I need on my prescription. Yes I know I get it all free but I tell you'd I'd rather not have any of it (and not need it) and pay for my prescriptions. I did get it all but she didn't like it it seems :( |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Some doctors don't like prescribing the expensive stuff dilli. Give it a year or so and you will soon be getting letters saying they will be changing your medication to a cheaper one. Sucks.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Hope you all are feeling better soon heero, den and dilli.
Don't know what I was worried about yesterday, today went well can not really remember the colonoscopy. Afterwards the nurse spoke to me about the results where they found some inflammation and the examiner has recommended an MRI scan as quote "the bowel prep was not as good as they would have liked it to be" don't know how as I took it as instructed over all I'm happy because at least some of my symptoms can be explained. Just to wait for the biopsy results for the tissue they removed. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Glad not as bad as you thought, good luck for the MRI.
Waiting for a parcel from Yodel today. Dreading what state it will arrive in judging by horror stories I have read online. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
l am glad yesterday went pretty well Weenie and hopefully the MRI scan and biopsy will show up nothing untoward.
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
They did not seem to worried when they explained that they would be recommending I get a MRI, I think it's because the the bowel prep was not as good as they would have liked it to be.
Fingers crossed, and no it was not as bad I thought. I told the doctor I felt uncomfortable then he gave me a top up of sedation then before I knew it I was in the recovery room :) TBH the moviprep was the worst. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Good to hear you got the extra top up it makes the world of difference weenie. just wish they would find a way to make the Moviprep more palatable.

I know what you mean about the fluids you have to take weenie. I have tried making the dang stuff up with less water then drinking pure water straight afterwards but nothing helps. it is just something that has to be got through. :(
I have had quite a few colonoscopys and each time I seem to lose focus. I remember most of the procedure and can kind of remember being reassured that it is almost over but nothing specific. Being back on the recovery ward is always a good feeling and the cup of tea is a highlight of the whole experience. :) Fingers crossed that this is the one and only time you have to face Moviprep. The MRI is a pleasant walk in the park compared to the dreaded Moviprep experience |

Random resets on some energy meter firmware: Client reports tens of minutes to hours apart. This sort of thing can be a devil to reproduce. I've got the in-circuit debug pod attached and some breakpoints set in the places the code might go down to get a reset, I'm also running the communications link (Modbus RS485) fairly hard just to try and provoke it a bit. More or less what the client had set up.
Now just have to wait for it to (hopefully) stop on one of the breakpoints. Then I get a snapshot of the internal RAM and registers. I think I know what the cause is but I need to prove it. |

I've stopped getting bumf since I registered with the Royal Mail to stop it. The fun is that to do that you have to print out a PDF form, fill it in and then post it to them (no online or telephone option) and if you want it in Welsh you have to specifically email them.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Don't know den but I have been referred to a gastroenterologist but need to get the MRI scan done first. Don't think it's IBS though as I'm being sick quite a lot and have unexplained weight loss, just wish I could get back to work. To begin with my doctor was treating me for anxiety, never really believed that was the cause as the tummy cramps are unbelievable.
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Hot water bottles as hot as you can take it is probably the best thing for stomach cramps / pain. Don't bother with painkillers they won't touch it.
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Due to kidney stones my bile duct is blocked and unable to digest anything with fat.
Single slice of toast with margarine spread thinly or milky drink sets me off with abdominal pains which are only calmed by Gaviscon Advance. Unable to have MRI scan at the moment due to combination of ICD device and heart meds that prevent surgery as I bleed too much. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

If you don't mind me asking what do you take/use for abdominal pains, as pain killers are not even touching the pain I'm experiencing. I am going to try peanuts advice and try Hot water bottle. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
There are some things you can try from over the counter, things like Buscopan which can help. Other than that an empty bowel normally mean a lot less pain, this goes for wind etc. So things like wind-eze is excellent also try to keep things moving by using mild laxatives if you need. A GP should be seen should you need to take regular laxatives. Also take a closer look at your diet and see what could be making things worse.
With pain meds, anything stronger than over the counter stuff (prescribed) if they contain opioids then they could make matters worse because they bind you up and cause constipation even after taking them for a couple of days. Other prescribed meds such as nortriptyline or amitriptyline etc could also help, but with any prescribed meds come with a price of the side effects. Obviously until you know the cause, you don't want to make matters worse. But after 25+ years of stomach pain and cramps, a hot water bottle is by far the best relief without taking meds. Quote:

Raging Bull hope things get sorted soon for you as being/feeling ill ain't nice at all.
Getting prescribed Buscopan, imodium and fybogel. Plus I've to keep a food diary. Peanut I don't know how you have coped with this for the last 25+ years, I've just been feeling ill for the last few months and it's really not too nice. I know all about your illness and I do not think I've got that, well hoping it's not that. |

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

That said he could still be right about the nervous disability thing, IBS is also quite common also with people with IBD, often most problems / symptoms are caused by IBS which often goes wrongly diagnosed because of the IBD. I know getting a diagnosis can take time that's for sure. |

Impatient drivers, got tooted at this morning for having the cheek to wait behind a car which had stopped at the front of the school while dropping their children off at the school gates. IMO it was not safe to pull out and move off because of oncoming traffic. Think I annoyed the lady more as I ignored her and her slight road rage. Monday morning madness. I think she needs to take a chill pill as she was getting annoyed with the car in front of me as well who pressed his horn back at her.
