Sol wants the abuse to stop

Well his argument might have a bit more weight if these highly paid prima donnas stopped bullying and haranguing referees at every opportunity!

Might also have helped if he hadn't rubbed the fans faces in it by joining their biggest rivals for no fee, he enjoyed their support then threw it back in their faces, he deserves all he gets imo No real fan minds players moving on and bettering themselves however when they behave like him, defoe, ince etc they deserve all they have coming

I think if they're 'man' enough to dish it out they should be man enough to take it.

Would it be too much to ask for these sensitive souls to show the same level of courtesy to the referees during the game?

I don't remember a match where players shout and swear at the referee for the whole match continuously. Even when they do swear at the referee it's not directed at them personally and is in the heat of the moment, it's different to when fans swear at players. No one deserves to be shouted and sworn at for 90 minutes so why should footballers get treated like that? There is uproar if a player swears at the crowd (Ashley Cole last Sunday) but what people were shouting at him was 100x worse than sticking two fingers up.

Oh OK so it's ok for footballers to jostle, abuse, intimidate and otherwise bully officals as long as they don't do it for too long

Sorry but the players are supposed to be professionals and demand to be paid accordingly - as such they need to set the example and if they don't like it they can always get a proper job can't they.

The point is that players do it to a referee in the heat of the moment and it's not at them personally whereas people in the crowd do it to players and managers intentionally. An example being when people shout things like 'tumour boy, why are you still alive?' to Glenn Roeder, i don't think the players/managers are complaining about songs or chants about them but when people shout things like that, it's disgusting.

So because they are proffesionals and get paid money to play football they deserve to be abused every weekend.....right, ok

It's odd how you quote my words then distort them

I never said the players deserved anything, I merely stated that they should set the example and clean up their own act first. By so doing they might just engender and then earn the respect they clearly seek! Not too much to ask of so called professionals is it??

It's similar to the way you ignore the main point of my posts ;)

Roy Keane wants the abuse to stop too. I am wondering whether the additives in those prawn sandwiches is the root of the problem

Don't think they get abused because they are professionals, more because they are unprofessional, take Defoe, where was the respect when he handed in a transfer request on the day we got relegated. Campbell and the rest of these pampered morons should remember respect is a two way street, show the fans none, expect to receive none in return

I don't think moving clubs should mean that you get constantly abused by fans, theres nothing to say that you need to stay at a club your whole career, obviously the fans won't be happy if they move to a rival but the abuse they recieve for it is disugusting in some cases which isn't needed.

No one has said you have to stay at one club your whole career, in fact I've said quite the opposite already in this thread, don't you think it strange how some players leave a club and are treated like conquering heroes upon their return. Players should remember when the fans invest emotional support in some one they believe is one of them, who by the players own words is a supporter and they see them move to their biggest rival for free, they'll feel betrayed, miss lead, lied to and conned, the same when a player is photographed by the press wearing another teams shirt whilst still playing for his local, boyhood team, imo he deserves to know how badly he has let people down.

Moving onto Defoe, no one would have said a word if he'd been sold after relegation but oh no, he had to go banging on doors handing in transfer requests on the day we went down, when the clubs very existence was under threat, his selfishness was unforgivable

I agree the way they went about what they did wasn't the best way to do it but i don't think they deserve the abuse they constantly get for doing it. I'm not saying fans shouldn't be able to boo players but some of the abuse i've heard directed at players is digusting and nobody whatever they have done deserves it. Managers like Redknapp, Grant, Ferguson and Roeder have all come out and said they constantly get abused by fans, what have they done to deserve that? It's something that should get sorted out as it seems to be getting worse. Why is there uproar if players are racially abused but then it's seen to be okay to call a player a c**t? In my opinion theres no difference and they should be punished in the same way.

In your opinion. Imo they must have known the consequences and just didn't give a damn and what was their agent doing, apart from lining his own pockets, surely only a fool would advise defoe to do what he did for instance.

There is a very big difference imo, what can anyone do about the colour of their skin and more importantly why should they want to do anything about it. They can however do something about what's inside themselves, there is a right way and a wrong way to behave.

That said I think we should agree to differ here as we are about to start repeating ourselves ;)
