Virgin Mobile - email to SMS?
Anyone know if VM offer a service which would allow me to send an email to my 'phone number@something.com' which would then be received as an SMS message on my phone?

Yes, that's how MMS works
Although I think it only works if you send a message to an e-mail address first as it's a very odd address |
Re: Virgin Mobile - email to SMS?
Thanks.
Googling found me an email address of <number>@vxtras.com and I emailed that yesterday. Nothing arrived (either SMS or email) to my phone and today I received the following 'bounce message' in the gmail account I sent from: Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed: <my number>@vxtras.com Message will be retried for 2 more day(s) Technical details of temporary failure: The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. Anyone else had any success (or failure) with this at all? Or do I need to call Virgin to get something activated on my account? |
Re: Virgin Mobile - email to SMS?
That's not the e-mail it gives
As I said, easiest way it is to send an MMS to your e-mail address. This will then give you the right e-mail address. Unfortunately it's not a simple one so it's not one you can tell people |
Re: Virgin Mobile - email to SMS?
Tested this on t-mobile:
Sent an MMS from my phone to my email address - arrived OK. Replied to the email - the return message arrived at the phone (no additional charge). Tried the return address a second time - got a message that this address had already been used once and that was the limit. Seems the complicated return address is there for one-time use only (at least on t-mobile PAYG). Anyway, it's nice to know that this facility exists. Thanks for the pointer. |
Re: Virgin Mobile - email to SMS?
I actually get that as well on Virgin Contract.
It's odd as it would allow multiple replies on the same day |
