Season 2021/22
Seeing as my last one was hijacked by international tournaments let's try again
Not looked forward to a season so much for years although a lack of signings so far into close season is concerning |
Re: Season 2021/22
Who do you support . . . Derby? ;) :D
|
Re: Season 2021/22
There is only one team TD supports and the clue is in the word nail.;)

Re: Season 2021/22
The football season is back, my first game attendance since last year. A good time was had.
As I get older seem to be going further away from cricket ('the hundred' was the last straw), and more back to 'the beautiful game'. Thought is was supposed to he the other way round when you got older !. As for rugby union, stoppages for video refs has destroyed the international game. Each half is lasting over an hour for all the stoppages, it was supposed to be a free flowing game... At least VAR isn't an issue in the football I watch, ref as well as player mistakes are part of the game. It usually evens out over a season. |
Re: Season 2021/22
Just watched the second Brentford goal, how was that not a clear foul on the keeper?
|
Re: Season 2021/22
Due to the rules forever being buggered about with, I'm of the opinion that the only people who can correctly identify a foul (ha) are chicken farmers ;)

It will be interesting to see how much he plays or whether he is on the subs bench mostly as financially Man Utd will make plenty of money worldwide with merchandise sales as there must be millions out there who are still willing to buy anything with the name Ronaldo on it.
|
Re: Season 2021/22
Have serious reservations about this, could turn out to be Sanchez mk2, when United gazumped City for Sanchez and he was a total dead weight.:(
It will be very good for shirt sales as long as they can get Cavani to relinquish the #7 shirt. Long term I think it may unsettle the team, Ronaldo is past his best, never tracks back or presses, you can’t afford a player like that in the Premiership like you can in La Liga or Serie A. I sincerely hope I am wrong but time will tell. |

Bissouma has been arrested for sexual assault, what a mug, he had the world at his feet and even if there's no truth in it he shouldn't have put himself in such a position where accusations can be levied at the moment, he may well have denied himself a dream move regardless of innocence or guilt. Plus if he is guilty prison FC are going to have some squad, all their games at home for obvious reasons but they could probably compete in the championship!

Re: Season 2021/22
Think it's wrong for the media to name players in these situations until proven guilty.
We had this sketch a while back with an unnamed Everton player who was quickly discovered by a process of elimination... |
Re: Season 2021/22
So if i got this right the takeover can go ahead because now it's now Saudi Arabia's investment fund buying the club and not Saudi Arabia?
|
Re: Season 2021/22
Allegedly.
But not really. We all know/knew that KSA and their PIF are the same thing. It's a state owned club, its barely a secret. It's gone ahead because Saudi Arabia have been released from potential prosecution regarding piracy. They have paid Bein compensation and restored their programming in the region effective yesterday. This means the Premier League held a takeover hostage by claiming KSA and PIF are one and the same under the shadow directors clause and disqualifying event. But as soon as Bein were happy. The league feel they're now separate  For reference it was always the PIF that made any bid. Nothing has changed. |

Re: Season 2021/22
Newcastle . . that's Brucie gone then, mutual consent, and Graeme Jones as interim manager until . . . 'the price is right' new manager comes along.
That could be a while, so Newcastle fans may face a period of baffling defensive tactics and 85% possession with nothing to show for it. Will the new manager be one of the 'old guard' that do the managerial merry-go-round, or a well established successful foreign manager attracted by the (probable) lucrative financial package offered? |
Re: Season 2021/22
Well that was exciting in the end and I’ll take the win but the first 45 minutes was the worst I have from United in a long time. Bruno Fernandes had his worst game since his last game against the Foxes. :(
Easy game up next.:) |

Re: Season 2021/22
Obviously l am pretty happy with the result but the question is what are Man Utd going to do from here as some are saying Ole is out of his depth and others are saying its the players who are at fault.
Sacking managers willy nilly is generally not United's style. |

Re: Season 2021/22

Man Utd may be more successful, but the Newcastle job is probably going to be seen as more attractive (and even then I'm not sure who they would get), and maybe even an easier task with more money to spend and more chance to actually rip up what's already there. But whoever takes the Man U job will still probably have to do it with the likes of Rashford, Pogba, Ronaldo, etc as key players in their system and probably less money to play with to improve the team. I didn't like his antics, but there was no doubt that Fergie was a first-rate manager, one of the greatest ever (if only Clough had been at a bigger club) and was going to be a hard act to replace, but they really have made such a fist up of it, van Gaal was probably the best but even then he didn't do much, Jose was a busted flush after leaving Chelsea the second time, his style just doesn't last for the time they needed, and Ole was an easy option who hadn't done so well at Cardiff in his only other job in this league system. Moyes needed more than a season but was always going to end up a fall guy. Though saying that Fergie even had real issues with replacing didn't he, took him ages to get a decent keeper to begin with, and when he left, they had the same issues, quite why they thought Mark Bosnich (a player they knew from having him before) had the right attitude to replace Schmeichel, then that Italian was just a joke, Barthez was too error prone, van der Sar was the keeper they should have got 5 years earlier, even de Gea isn't that convincing really. And we lost 4-0 with Fulham only having 3 shots on target. |

Nuno has been sacked

Re: Season 2021/22
Sadly many owners (and fans) are wanting instant results and aren't prepared to give time (and money) to a manager in order to create a team of players willing to work with the manager and his tactics towards success.
Some clubs however go the other way, and support a manager with time and money . . but they still fail. Some weren't impressed with Moyes at one time, I bet WH fans are glad they kept him now ;) Funny old game Saint ;) |
Re: Season 2021/22
Things I hate about modern football.
Nuno did a very good job at Wolves and had only been there since the summer. We also know Mourinho leaves a club in a bit of a mess because of his style. Unless it's clearly not working behind the scenes I do feel a new manager needs a full season in most cases. |

It's 'Sacking Monday' . . .

More sackings this week . . apparently, after only 11 games into the season, that's about a quarter of the Prem managers sacked already . . with a few more to come I'm sure.
Xisco Munoz (Watford) – October 3, 2021 Steve Bruce (Newcastle) – October 20, 2021 Nuno Espirito Santo (Tottenham) – November 1, 2021 Daniel Farke (Norwich City) – November 6, 2021 Dean Smith (Aston Villa) – November 7, 2021 Championship and below are getting into the game too. What a carry on  |

Derby take another 9 point hit with a further 3 suspended in case of any future 'mishaps' this season.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59288687 Will this latest bout of punishing clubs prevent others from trying to circumvent the rules? Highly doubtful IMO, some clubs are still risking everything on a quick push to the riches of the Premiership. |
