If BBC does the same this year, all practice sessions will be available via the red button, and after the race will be the forum.

Yep, sorry I should have said that the practice times are from the BBC website and yes they are doing the usual red button :)

It'll be interesting to see how the Mclaren is after their drastic overhaul of the car after the latest testing

Was shattered last night so recorded it myself and just watched both sessions..

It would be fascinating to see the fuel levels for both sessions to make sense of the times.

I hope the DRS works better than KERS did in giving an overtake advantage

I wonder if Sutil has gone to change his underwear after his unscheduled stunt driving near the end of Q2 ??

I really do hope that Vettel isn't turning into another Schummie.. it gets boring when someone gets clinical in their driving.. I'd rather watch Kobayashi drifting round the track :D

Sutil did a superb job keeping his motor out of the wall, its better to trash the lap than the car.

Starts at 7am, managed to miss the obvious 7am in Kymmy's post so I've been up since 5 :dunce:

Come on Hamilton!

Great chance for him to get some early points that he may need to fall back on again this season after his results in the last few races last year.

Vettel looked stupidly quick so this could also be a 1st place start to finish for him.

And just think that 5am was 4am GMT

You could of at very least woke me up with a coffee then ;) mind you it might have been a bit cold with the 200+mile trip :D

Regarding Vettel I just have bad feelings this year that he's going to push it a bit to far this year..

---------- Post added at 07:39 ---------- Previous post was at 06:30 ----------

So much for DRS making a difference.. Perhaps it'll be better on longer straights but I still think they should activate the DRS for the whole lap if within 1 second

Re: Formula 1 2011 season

Seen Button do the only overtake so far using it.

Much of what I expected so far with Vettel flying off, This lad is as good as Schumacher was.

I believe Button's move on Massa was stupid with 2/3 of the race left.

Quite an eventful opener though, Rubens attacked the side of the Mercedes and earned himself a Drive-Through and Button's Drive-Through earlier in the race.

Ferrari's look well off the pace so far

Update: Hamilton looks out now, Damaged something under the front wing from what I'm hearing :(
Titanium strip has dropped the plank underneath but he's fighting on. Could face a penalty if the Plank is worn.

Race Finished - Results http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ts/9417656.stm

Great race from Vettel, untouchable

Hamiltion played with the damage car fantasically

And even though these two dominated the race.

A MASSIVELY great performance by Petrov and Perez

Ferrari's really did look poor today though, Still sticking with my earlier comments

Seems both Saubers have been disqualified due to the bodywork. Shame for Perez as he had a great race

adzii_nufc 28-03-2011 04:22

Re: Formula 1 2011 season

Yep, Both Saubers disqualified from seventh and eighth places for a technical infringement to do with the rear wing actuators.

Real shame considering his drive, Not really that brilliant with these cars but do you reckon this could have something to do with Perez only having 1 stop. If not I wonder what Sauber have come up with that the rest clearly have not!

Make them unstable at lower speeds, that way if you do loose control it's not such an issue. Less aero downforce must surely help here so thatthey are not so pitch sensitive and snappy. The other issue is to limit mechanical grip and make the cars harder to drive.

YET AGAIN FERRARI CHEAT.

Alfonso hits the back of Hamilton and BOTH get a 20 second penalty!!! WTF

This hit Hamilton as he drops from 7th to 8th, while Afonso stays 6th.

You will need to entor the results of the Malaysian GP, plus modify the results of the Austrailain GP following the Sauber DSQ.

You can also add drivers as they come along.

Looks like the italian cheating squad may have complained to the Stewards regarding Hamiton's defending and then had it partly backfire on them. It's a shame Lewis lost a position though.

BTW, just before the finish line it really looked like Massa and Alonso were going to swap positions.

And you work for Virgin media.. :p:

But in a fair world (and one that now has drivers on the stewards enquiry team) there most have been some reason for the Hamilton penalty.. I'll have to see if I can find the decision transcript

Re: Formula 1 2011 season

Lewis was penalised for changing direction more than once while defending. It was just before turn 1 so a while before they made contact.

Sometimes I think there is lack of consistancy with the stewards, how do they explain penalising Jenson in Australia but not Vettel who made a pass on Jenson whilst not in the confines of the track?

Not so much about 'luck'

The credit I believe should go to the the designs of the cars and the Barriers. If it was any ordinary barrier he skidded into It would have had a very different outcome but as you can see the replays these barriers do an excellent job at dispersing all of the crash energy.

How many laps is this race? I'm pretty sure there will be more crashes coming tomorrow because that corner looks like a nightmare. Race day will make that one corner even worse if you have a similar race as the last GP with the front two very close together and the pressure could be enough to put someone off in that corner.

The 1996 race saw Michael Schumacher take pole position before crashing out on the first lap. Damon Hill led the first 40 laps before his engine expired in the tunnel. Jean Alesi took the lead but suffered suspension failure 20 laps later. Olivier Panis, who started in 14th place, moved into the lead and stayed there until the end of the race, being pushed all the way by David Coulthard. It was Panis' only win, and the last for his Ligier team. Only four cars finished the race.

IIRC the best race at Monaco was in 1992 was the Senna & Mansell race, were that last 4 laps Mansell was all over Senna's car but could not pass (a lose wheel nut cost him the win) and he finishe 0.2 seconds behind, Mansell had to be help out of the car as he was totally knackered.

Mansell went on to win the title with 5 race still to win.

Race to be resumed after track is cleared & start behind safety car.

Petrov complaining of pain in his leg\legs.

Restart @ 16.04 Local time.

Petrov, no broken bones just bruising!

Looks like it'll be a restart.. LOL @ the startline repair on Lewis's rear wing..

Re: Formula 1 2011 season

Vettle only won due to the problems with the incident on lap 71\72 Alonso should have had that with Button a credible 2nd. Bummer :( Vettle is not my fav driver, not even in top 5 of current drivers.

I don't honestly count Monaco as a race, it's more a series of events in that someone is declared the winner

I'm getting very very bored of Red bull winning, I wonder if they've got something the other teams haven't

They only won this race by pure luck, and how did alfonso get 2nd.

An F1 car is just too fast for Monaco, well for a safe race anyway. There's a race there because of "tradition" and all the money that's in the locality. I find it inconceivable that a 30MPH corner exists anywhere on an F1 track.

Sorry, for me Monaco, mundane, dangerous and slow.

What I don't understand is this: When they do the start of the race, do they keep the time differences between the cars intact and if so how?

Virgin to split with Wirth research. looks like the Russian backers of the Virign team want to change direction of the team.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91924

I think they are close to being beaten by HRT and they have no money . Team Norfolk are doing OK but with a Renault engine and Red Bull transmission I would like to think they could be quicker thanb they are

Bahrains back on the calendar for the 30th October

Quite surprised with the viewpoints already put forward by the various teams

Ah bugger, I downloaded a Excel F1 spreadsheet and this has buggered it up as its protected and addtional tracts cannot be added.

Mind you Bernie need the cash from them doesn't he:rolleyes:

What happens to those people who have spent a fortune to visit the India GP on the 30th October?

As they are unlikely to get a full refund.

Buemi runs over a spectator during a Red Bull demonstration as dumb spectator runs across the track.

Luckily neither driver or moron was injured.

You can watch the video here: http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/50699.html

Re: Formula 1 2011 season

Bahrain is off the calendar for 2011 again, it seems the FIA broke their own rules in reinstating it, and overlooked article 66 of their code which states no amendments can be made to the arrangements for a championship after entries open without the agreement of all competitors.

On Tuesday the teams wrote to the FIA expressing their objections to Bahrain being put back on the calendar, so without their agreement the race is off!

Hopefully this is the end of the matter, the Grand Prix season should allways finish in Brazil. I mean what about people who booked time off to go to the Indian race only for Bahrain to flash the cash and be given preference.
Not to mention the logistics which were probably allready in place!

Same old, Vettel on pole will easily win and continue to run away with the championship. Its already wrapped up in my eyes. Was it Coulthard who said this was one of the best F1 seasons so far?

Re: Formula 1 2011 season

It is one of the best F1 seasons.. shame it's not the best F1 Championship...

There's more to the sport than just first past the finishing line otherwise they'd just have the qualifying then announce the result and forget about the race

No unless Whitmarsh ups his act then Red Bull and Vettel will win the championship easily l am afraid.

As I understand it, not banned as such, just severely restricted.

McLaren had leaned toward's a 'wet set up' for qualifying yesterday, so yes it should spice thing's up

Re: Formula 1 2011 season

The wet set up just failed. Hamilton in 8 laps has wrecked any chance of a great season. As Button just said..''What is he doing??''

Apart from that, Action packed GP!
