Re: Freeware Alternative Software List
NetWorx is a free bandwidth monitoring tool with built in Ping and trace Root tools as well as alot more.
For me it is a good looking piece of software which is highly customisable to get it looking how you want. Key Features Clear graphic and/or numeric display. Usage reports with export to a variety of file formats, including Excel, MS Word and HTML. Permits close supervision of uploads and downloads. Works with dial-up, ISDN, cable modems, ADSL, Ethernet cards, and more. Includes network information & testing tools with advanced netstat that displays applications using your Internet connection. Scalable to your own modem download capabilities. Option to notify user or disconnect from the Internet automatically when network activity exceeds a certain level. Speed meter to accurately time downloads and report the average transfer rates. Dial-up session journal with detailed information about every session. Absolutely free and does not contain any adware/spyware/malware. http://www.softperfect.com/products/networx/ https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...011/05/103.png http://www.softperfect.com/products/...mall_trace.png http://www.softperfect.com/products/...stat_daily.png http://www.softperfect.com/products/...gs_general.pnghttp://www.softperfect.com/products/...ll_netstat.png |

Mouse without borders.
TCP/IP Mouse/Keyboard sharing for Windows ... "In a nutshell, it allows you to reach across your PC's as if they were part of one single desktop. I have two PCs on my desk at work connected to 3 LCD screens and using Mouse Without Borders I can move my mouse between the 3 screens, even though one of them is attached to a different PC from the other two. What’s more, I can move files between the 2 computers simply by dragging them from one desktop to another." http://blogs.technet.com/b/next/arch...t-borders.aspx |
Re: Freeware Alternative Software List
Interesting find. This has been possible with various open source and free programs for a decade, but it's nice to see Microsoft make an effort.
I do wonder what the advantages might be and whether they did much to implement low-level integration with Windows. |
Re: Freeware Alternative Software List
Remembering my office days of attaching files to emails just to send them to the person at the next desk, this seems a simpler and more elegant solution. It may not cause a desktop revolution, but not everything has to. Every little thing that makes using the computer that little bit easier is a help.

Re: Freeware Alternative Software List
Anyone know of a free desktop publisher they can recommend? I did have Serif Page Plus SE but I had to uninstall because it became corrupt and the new download of it appears to have some kind of virus. :)

FreeFileSync
Can't praise this enough, intuitive, very quick, handles long paths/file names and doesn't use a lot of resources. http://sourceforge.net/projects/freefilesync/ |
