What are our guys and gals supposed to do in a situation such as - an insurgent or you.

Except it wasn't a case of the insurgent or him. The insurgent was injured and not a threat. I wouldn't of gone all out on the first aid but dragging him out of camera view and finishing him off isn't on.

I think the 10 years is harsh but he couldn't just be let off with it.

Just a bloody scapegoat for all the do gooders and political correctness merchants, the Geneva Convention does not exist in a place like Afganistan. Ten years in a military jail poor man.. yes arguably he did not show any compassion for a killer. I would give him a bigger gun, pat on the back and send him back.

With a medal

A Royal Marine, jailed for shooting an injured Taliban fighter in Afghanistan, has had his murder conviction reduced to manslaughter by an appeal court.
Sgt Alexander Blackman, 42, from Taunton, Somerset, has already served three years of a life sentence.
Five judges at the Court Martial Appeal Court in London ruled the conviction should be "manslaughter on the ground of diminished responsibility".
A further hearing will now decide what sentence Blackman should serve.
Blackman was not in court to hear the decision.
The marine had a recognised mental illness at the time of the shooting in September 2011, the hearing had been told.

I hope they get on with it, he's out ASAP and given the help and support he needs to get over the ordeal.

It'll be interesting to see what comes out as the family continue to ask questions about the way this case was handled.

I think the Geneva Convention is now totally out of date. What we have now is a totally different 'war zone'. Ane the Convention rewritten. We are not dealing with Wars between countries. We are dealing with terrorism

We now have on the streets terrorism in various forms. We have the evils of war such as IS. And our brave boys and gals in various parts of the world.

We have the fears on the streets of every part of the UK. In Europe we have terrible murders carried out by terrorist n the streets

Our troops must be given every support it needs to combat this. And NOT to have criminal charges brought against this officers.

Terrorists would NOT think twice about killing our forces. Whether its cutting soldiers throats, shooting them r even blowing them up.

Soldiers should NOT have to faces charges every time they face the enemy.

What this soldier carried out was in the line of duty, what IF the soldier faced the Insurgent, was faking his injury, and then turned a gun on the soldier - and the soldier fought back in self defence. What then.

The soldier should be released NOW, and get the treatment he needs.

Biggest problem we have in this country, is that when service men and women leave the services, they are forgotten

RELEASE HIM NOW.

Agreed, when all was said and done, the guy had been hit by an Apache 20mm cannon round it's highly likely he would have died shortly in any case. - Personally I'd have been less than handy with the first-aid and let nature take its course. Same result, no legal grief.
